'Rams' Corner' is a series dedicated to recipes and cooking tips and tricks. Rams (aka Jorden) is my husband, a seasoned chef turned graphic designer that never lost his passion for food.

The winter months call for warm drinks, peppermint flavors, and cinnamon scents.

Inspired by a classic Mexican coffee recipe, with a holiday twist!

Here's what you need:

  • 3/4 cup ground coffee

  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

  • 5 cups water

  • 1/2 cup whole milk

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar

  • 1/3 cup chocolate syrup

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Garnish of your choosing: whipped cream, cinnamon sticks, chocolate shavings, candy canes

Here's how to make it:

  1. Make your coffee. Brew your coffee ground with the cinnamon added to the filter basket. OR if you're like us and don't have a coffee maker, add the ground coffee, water, and cinnamon to a pot on the stovetop.

  2. Make your holiday mix. While the coffee is brewing, bring the milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, and chocolate syrup to a gentle simmer in a small saucepan. Keep the mixture on low heat so avoid burning the mixture!

  3. Combine. Once both pots are simmering (or your coffee is made & your holiday mix is simmering) combine both mixtures into one saucepan.

  4. Pour & Garnish. At this point, your coffee is ready to pour into your favorite holiday mug. Pour the mixture into each glass and top with the garnish of your choice: whipped cream, cinnamon sticks, chocolate shavings, candy canes, get creative!

  5. Serve.
